Stroop Test - a Reference Stimulus for Psychophysiological Measurements?

چکیده
Numerous experiments dealing with measuring of changes in human physiology due to mental stress are reported. In these researches, a stimulus is commonly employed to mentally, emotionally or cognitively affect the human subject and hers/his perception, resulting in changes in physiology. When evaluating such experiments from the metrology perspective, there is a clear lack of consistence and knowledge in assessing such psychological stimuli. In this paper we are presenting an attempt to evaluate a commonly used colour word conflict test the Stroop colour test, in several versions. The physiological results indicate that different versions of the Stroop test induce different levels of psychophysiological answer.

[Cardiovascular response to Stroop test: comparison between the computerized and verbal tests].
BACKGROUND The Stroop test requires the individual to respond to specific elements of a stimulus, whereas inhibiting more automated processes. OBJECTIVE To compare the cardiovascular reactivity induced by the computerized version of the Stroop word-color test TESTINPACS with the traditional version based on the reading of printed words. METHODS The sample of convenience consisted of 20 wome...
متن کاملPsychophysiological evidence for the genuineness of swimming-style colour synaesthesia.
Recently, swimming-style colour synaesthesia was introduced as a new form of synaesthesia. A synaesthetic Stroop test was used to establish its genuineness. Since Stroop interference can occur for any type of overlearned association, in the present study we used a modified Stroop test and psychophysiological synaesthetic conditioning to further establish the genuineness of this form of synaesth...
متن کاملEmotion self-regulation, psychophysiological coherence, and test anxiety: results from an experiment using electrophysiological measures.
This study investigated the effects of a novel, classroom-based emotion self-regulation program (TestEdge) on measures of test anxiety, socioemotional function, test performance, and heart rate variability (HRV) in high school students. The program teaches students how to self-generate a specific psychophysiological state--psychophysiological coherence--which has been shown to improve nervous s...
متن کاملStimulus conflict triggers behavioral avoidance.
According to a recent extension of the conflict-monitoring theory, conflict between two competing response tendencies is registered as an aversive event and triggers a motivation to avoid the source of conflict. In the present study, we tested this assumption. Over five experiments, we examined whether conflict is associated with an avoidance motivation and whether stimulus conflict or response...
متن کاملLimbic irritability and chaotic neural response during conflicting stroop task in the patients with unipolar depression.
According to recent findings activation of anterior cingulate cortex (ACC) is related to detecting cognitive conflict. This conflict related activation elicits autonomic responses which can be assessed by psychophysiological measures such as heart rate variability calculated as beat to beat R-R intervals (RRI). Recent findings in neuroscience also suggest that cognitive conflict is related to s...
